April: Blackout Poetry Challenge!

Celebrate April as National Poetry Month with the Blackout Poetry Challenge!

What's the Blackout Poetry Challenge?

Choose a page from the Bellya window basket and use a sharpie/dark marker to black out everything BUT the words you want to create a poem.

It can be silly or serious, and you can make as many as you like! Pin yours to the board and read what others have created!

You may also share poems that you have already written. Just stick'em on the board!

"Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful." - Rita Dove, the first African-American Poet Laureate of the United States.

Check out some Blackout Poetry examples after the jump!

Feeling Lucky?

Update 3/22/2017: the scheduled tournament for this Friday will be a regular Gamefest event instead, due to insufficient sign-up. There will be video and tabletop gaming, plus snacks, from 3:00-6:00 PM. We will also plan for a big summer tournament!

★ Please note: the library closes at 5:00 PM, but the event will continue until 6:00 PM. Normal library services will not be available at this time and the front entrance will be locked.

Please have transport arranged or somewhere to go when the event ends. Parents/guardians MUST provide transport to minors after dark, in inclement weather, and/or who live a considerable distance away. A police escort will be called for minors whose rides have not yet arrived 15 minutes past the event's end.

This in-area activity is for: the 6th-12th grade & 2016 high school graduates.

Happening March 16th-31st!

Here's what to expect on our clover clue sheet!
