1. Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor
Akata Witch
transports the reader to a magical place where nothing is quite as it
seems. Born in New York, but living in Aba, Nigeria, twelve-year old
Sunny is understandably a little lost. She is albino and thus,
incredibly sensitive to the sun. All Sunny wants to do is be able to
play football and get through another day of school without being
bullied. But once she befriends Orlu and Chichi, Sunny is plunged in to
the world of the Leopard People, where your worst defect becomes your
greatest asset. Together, Sunny, Orlu, Chichi and Sasha form the
youngest ever Oha Coven. Their mission is to track down Black Hat
Otokoto, the man responsible for kidnapping and maiming children. Will
Sunny be able to overcome the killer with powers stronger than her own,
or will the future she saw in the flames become reality?
2. Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson
Mary B. Addison killed a baby. Allegedly.
She didn’t say much in that first interview with detectives, and the
media filled in the only blanks that mattered: A white baby had died
while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old
daughter. The public convicted Mary and the jury made it official. But

Bellevue Public Library is going to take you out to the ballgame in
July with this special opportunity* for children and teens: register for
our Summer Library Programs) and receive TWO free tickets to a 2017
Library Nights: Fresno Grizzlies vs. Omaha Storm Chasers game at Werner
Park! Redeem your tickets at the ballpark (in advance or on gameday) for
either Sunday, July 30th at 5:05 PM or Monday, July 31st at 7:05 PM.
Visit the library and double your fun this summer! Children (birth-6th
grade) and young adults (7th-12th grade, 2017 high school graduates) can
sign up for the Summer Library Program any time through July 22nd! The
participant must be present to register. The Summer Library Program is
free and you do not have to be a library member to participate.
* While supplies last.
★ For now, the library is offering this as a special incentive to
encourage new participation. If you are already registered, please check
in with us starting JULY 17TH and we would be happy to hand out any
remaining baseball tickets. Thank you!
In 28 days, Summer Reading Program participants have logged 3,255 hours! I think that's worthy of a dance!: \(>.<)/( >.)//\( )\\(.< )\(>.<)/
That's 651 prize slips earned, going toward 20 different finale prize packages! Come in to the library to look at the prize display and--because I couldn't fit all the awesomeness into the glass case--the prize binders which have photos and descriptions of each prize bundle.
It's not too late to sign up for the Spark A Reaction SRP! Remember--you don't need a library card to participate in the logs or events. (But yes, you would need a card to check stuff out.) Signing up is easy!: Step 1 Saunter up to the Front Desk! Step 2 Say "I want to sign up for your really cool SRP!" Step 3 Write your name/age/phone #/grade in the Official Sign-Up Binder and you'll receive all you need to join in! (And SRP event registration is at the Front Desk too! Calendar here.) Step 4 Exclaim (quietly, because you're in a library) "Why thank you, you really cool librarian!" (◕ฺ◡−) *WINK*
Yourlast day to turn in logs and drawing slips is Friday, July 11th, by 5 PM! Prize winners will be contacted July 14th-18th, leading up to our finale party, Bellcon, on Saturday, July 19th! More details to follow!

It's a drop-in event; come join the anime-watching (courtesy of crunchyroll.com), food-eating, craft-constructing, mascot-naming, and friend-making! Tomorrow is also Custom Buttons: Part Deux! You can cut out extreme shojo faces (as pictured) from one of our many mangazines (shonen also available). Or make a Chi button, with soft felt ears! =＾● ⋏ ●＾= Been dying to make a Dr. Who or David Bowie button? Feel free to bring in your own cutouts! (The number of buttons may be subject to limitation, though!)
